Trowbridge had a grammar school at this time, but only the very wealthy people in the town, like the clothiers, would have sent their children to attend.
This picture shows Francis, Lord Seymour, who inherited the manor of Trowbridge from his father. Born in 1590, he started at Trowbridge Grammar school aged 8, with his older brother William. When he left at 14 years old he would have studied languages, history and religion. |
